The Ongoing Saga Of Draping!

Last week we started our drapery project and it was a killer! I knew I was going to struggle with drapery anyway because I love flat pattern cutting and sportswear - neither of these things really go hand in hand with drapery.

I was going to use the Vivienne Westwood dress as a starting point because I thought that it was the best dress to get inspiration from and it was a good base to make changes to. I started to do the standard pretty draped dresses and as much as I liked what I was coming up with I just wasn't in love with it. Here are some of my favourite designs I came up with though;
This dress reminds me of a Roman Toga, I really like the top half because I think it is very flattering.I really did like this draping but I think it would of been very limited for options on the bottom half.

Towards the end of the day though I felt really defeated so left it and decided to come back the next day with fresh ideas. The next day was a lot better for me and I did lots of different techniques and started to produce work that was more up my street.

Here are some pictures of my final piece of work; As you can tell from my original image it is very different, but I was really pleased with the overall project as I never thought it was possible to mix sportswear and drapery. I managed to pleat and drape a massive hood and turn gathers into pockets.
